Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 has barely been out for 24 hours, yet I’ve witnessed quite an uptick in the number of Battlefield 3 promos and commercials in the past few days. Is this EA trying to keep a game that’s barely 2 weeks old relevant and still fresh in gamers minds? It sure is. Who can blame them, they are up against a virtual juggernaut with Modern Warfare 3, as it seems every year there’s a new Call of Duty title that’s breaking some sort of sales record.
The truth of the matter is, Modern Warfare 3 is going to outsell Battlefield 3, but that doesn’t mean Battlefield 3 should be tossed aside. It has received overwhelmingly positive reviews for it’s multiplayer component, lets face it, no one seems to make first person shooter competitive multiplayer component better than DICE. The strengths of Battlefield 3 seems to be DICE pushing the envelope by creating new and exciting game play elements where Modern Warfare seems to be content to play it relatively save churning out titles with its tried and true format.
Both games are geared towards the same type of gamers, both have their pluses and minuses, but with all of the Call of Duty coverage that is sure to be around for the next few weeks and months it may be easy to forget about Battlefield 3. One word of advice, don’t forget about Battlefield 3. It offers a great multiplayer experience that’s fresh, exciting, and moves the genre forward.
